Cute Story Alert
Our Boston Terrier Tug was a bit hyper the other day and I decided to give him an ear rub when he settled down as a treat. He loves having his ears rubbed even more than a back scratch. He sat between my feet and I had his right ear in my hand just rubbing around the base of it. He was so happy he almost wouldn't breathe because he didn't want me to stop! After a good four minutes (which is really a long time and I was getting a hand cramp) he gave a little sigh, dropped his head and staggered over to his day-bed about three feet away. He took a moment to get settled, sighed again and fell asleep. All together now: awwwwwwwwwww! How sweet is that???

Our Boston Terrier
Our Boston TerrierTug went to his first dog parlor yesterday. He's been to one of the major pet chains and ridden around in a cart but yesterday he was carried around the boutique in his carrier. (Tomorrow he gets his second round of shots so he should be ready to do face-to-face meets but we've kept him off the floors due to the parvo issues, etc.) This store was just opening up and is located across from one of the bigger paw parks (location, location, location). It was a great experience for Tug and his entourage (Mama, my sister and myself) and we look forward to going back. He was pretty tuckered out from being so alert and interested in everything so when we got back to the car he napped in his carrier- on his back. Like most Bostons he has a white belly so it was a cute sight.
Today, he was sitting in Mama's lap and started chewing her shirt buttons. I sighed as it's an on-going issue and said we had to do something about that habit. As if he'd been given a cue from a script Tug sat up, dropped his ears to "uh-oh" position and looked up at Mama very seriously. Then he glanced at me and then back to Mama. It was a definite request for reassurance. Unfortunately, Mama was so worried about me choking on the swallow of water I'd just taken that she couldn't worry about him- and I was desperately trying to avoid spraying a mouthful across the floor because I was laughing so hard! We are so in trouble with this little joker.
One last incident to report from today. My sister brought him a new toy (Mama and I have stopped arguing duck vs. chicken and are now just stating our position: "duck!"...."chicken!"...."duck!"). Now, all his other plush toys with squeakers still squeak but the duck's squeaker died pretty quickly (see previous post about the phrase "aggressive chewer"). So, when Tug was down the hall and I feared mischief and wanted to attract his attention I didn't have the option of picking it up and making it squeak. So I squeaked. Actually, I said "squeak, squeak" in a high voice. I am sorry to report that this completely fooled the poor thing and he came running down the hall to grab his toy and "subdue" it. Okay, maybe it's not such a sad thing that a nearly 11 week old puppy was fooled but Mama and I were in hysterics and felt a little guilty!

Our Boston Terrier
Tug's too smart for our good! We had to remove all of the throw rugs since he "christened" them his first week. (We hope to bring them back in someday...) In order to keep our recliners from scratching the new laminate floor Mama put down some cheap carpet squares. Guess who just LOVES to chew them? We kept fussing at him and telling him "bad chew" without much success. Finally, Mama picked him up and put him down by his bed and gave him one of his favorite toys. Without missing a beat the little "Terror" picked up the toy and when right back to the piece of carpet. He put down the toy on the carpet and began chewing the carpet edge UNDER the toy! We were just flabbergasted- he's only 10 weeks old and he's already figured out subterfuge? We are so in trouble...

Our Boston Terrier
Tug (Tug O' War de Trinity) was born in May. He's a spunky little Boston "Terror" who has no idea he isn't the center of the Universe; actually, he doesn't realize the Universe exists- he thinks it's all about him!
As he's still a baby he sleeps a lot but when he's awake he has to be watched every minute since Bostons are considered "aggressive" chewers. What a cute phrase! In English: his mouth is always on something, he has strong jaws and needle sharp teeth. The things the books don't quite tell you...
He understands the word "sit" and complies if he smells a treat (his normal kibble when hand-fed). If there's no treat, there's no "sit." Simple supply and demand economics- what a smart boy!
