Yesterday morning, someone wouldn't even eat a treat when I got up and tried to give him one. He stuck close as I walked and had to sit on my feet- but wouldn't get in my lap. The light bulb didn't go off until he started this funny way of licking his lips and then it was too late to get the newspapers onto the rug. Poor Tug just threw up for several minutes. His little body was just heaving. So Mama runs and gets some newspapers and throws them down and, as expected, our sweet boy moves onto one and finishes throwing up on it - how sweet is that?
Well, it's pretty sweet but now we've got newspapers laying on the floor while Mama goes to get the spot cleaner for the rug and all this heaving has had an effect...so he does exactly what he's supposed to do- he "goes" on his papers- which are lying on the rug...you just can't fault him for that. Here's an urgent need and papers lying right there instead of his having to go across the living room and past the dinette to the porch where his usual papers are waiting...
(He felt better afterwards and he's not sick again, thank goodness!)

a new toy and a clever boy!
Tug got a new toy from my sister the other day (and it was even a silent one!). It's one of those plastic things which holds a mini-size tennis ball and you snap your wrist and the ball goes flying. It's like playing fetch but you won't throw out your shoulder. Anyway, he figured out quick that we put the ball into the holder before throwing it again. Sometimes he's clever.
However, and I do have a witness, he actually tried to put the ball into the holder part himself when I let it rest down on the carpet!! No foolin'!
Of course, he actually wanted to chew both the ball and plastic holder at the same time- but it still counts!!!

in loving memory of some four-legged friends
April: Vega, a co-worker's Golden Retriever service dog of over 5 years (trained by Canine Companions) had to be to sleep as he became ill.
May: Taz, a co-worker's shepard who was 12, had to be put to sleep as he became ill.
June: Ben, a co-worker's Rottie who is also older, is to be put to sleep this coming weekend because he's been ill for awhile.
Tug and Vega had actually met once last year. Without Vega's presence at work for so many years I'm not certain I would've supported Mama's decision to get a dog as I've always been a cat person. Vega was a quiet, patient soul who really made even non-animal people admire him over time.
When Tuggums was ill this past February, Mama and I wouldn't look at each other but one of us would say "what would we do if we lost the boy."
